Boracay Experience Part 2: Iloilo City to Caticlan, Malay, Aklan

As planned we need to wake up as early as 5AM so we can leave Iloilo City at 6AM. But in reality, we left Iloilo City at 7AM. We bought our breakfast in Jollibee and just ate inside the van. We hired 2 vans just to accomodate all of us. You know, we were all 21. The deal of the van transportation was PhP 835/head back and forth, that is Iloilo City – Caticlan vice versa. Our goal was to arrive in Boracay before lunch.

Oh yeah. It was a four hour long drive. You see I was not able to sleep inside the van. I forced to close my eyes but still I was not able to sleep. I instead forced myself to find pleasure of the places we passed by. Well, I was intrigued to see Panay Power Plant. It is so unusual to see such plant. I think it was the first time I saw a power plant. Was not able to take a picture of the said plant though. Also, there is another city of Iloilo and that is Passi City. Hmmm… many cities in the Philippines. And if you find Makati City in the Philippines, there is a place called Makato and that is somewhere in Aklan. haha See, I learned something in our road trip. LOL

Almost all the roads were cemented. So thumbs up to local goverment of Aklan, Capiz and Iloilo. I observed that Ceres Tours Bus is the main bus operator for the three provinces. Correct me if I am not. So yeah, we played Pinoy Henyo inside the van just to kill time.

We arrived in Caticlan at around 11:30AM. So that was 4 and a half hour drive. It was high season and so when we arrived I already saw a lot of people falling in line to get their ferry tickets. You need to pay PhP 50.00 terminal fee, PhP 75.00 environmental fee for non local discount card holders and PhP 25.00 for banka pump boat. A total of PhP 150.00, so expensive, huh? The pier has a tight security. They still have to inspect you and your bags. That was kinda stressful for me since the atmosphere was hot and I had to get the bags on and off. Anyway, as long as they keep us safe, that would be fine.

From Caticlan to Boracay Island is like 15-20 minutes travel. Basically, travelling from Colon to IT Park takes longer. haha I am just wondering why they did not build a bridge that would connect Panay Island to Boracay Island. Is it because of an environmental issue? Why do you think so? :)

How Caticlan port looks is almost the same with Boracay pier. The waters are clean just like in Tagbilaran City.

From the pier, we took a multicab that transported us to our resort. Fare was PhP12.00 We stayed in Boracay Courtyard Beach Resort (pension house type) in Station 2. We checked in our things around 12:30PM. So we failed our goal to arrive in Boracay before lunch. Anyway, I will continue to blog about my Boracay experience in the next entry.
