Globe Internet Broadband: A Personal Review

Internet is one necessity nowadays. Choosing the right Internet Service Provider should not be disregarded. Hope this review will give you an insight. I know my experience will not be your experience. I just thought that in this review I have the chance to warn you first.
As you probably know I was a Smart Bro canopy subscriber… that was a year ago when I was in Bohol studying college. College graduation came and got a job here in Cebu. Then God blessed me and I was able to purchase a laptop. Having a laptop with no internet could not be of use at all (well maybe for playing movies and music) so I thought of getting internet again.
I planned to get Smart Bro in Cebu but I am into downloading torrents, and based from my previous experience with Smart Bro, I was not that happy in terms of downloading torrents. So my friends told me that I should get a wired DSL internet. I got three choices: Globe Broadband, PLDT and Sky Cable Internet. I am renting a room in Lahug. Sky Cable Internet does not offer service in my area so I got two choices left: either Globe Broadband or PLDT myDSL. I researched about these two Internet Service Providers (ISP) on the internet to gain insight what would work best for me. Both have negative and positive reviews. It does not matter then to what ISP should I subscribe.
To make the story short, I signed up for Globe Broadband Internet Plan 995 with up to 1mbps speed.
My Installation Story? HORROR!
Monday, I submitted my application at Globe Telecom Center in Ayala Mall. They only required two valid IDs. In my case, I submitted my TIN ID and Company ID. I drew a sketch of my location and they confirmed that it was serviceable. I signed up a contract stating that I should keep the service for one year or else I will have to pay the early termination fee which is worth of two months service (PhP 2,000). I paid PhP 500.00 for the deposit. The representative then told me to wait for a call that should inform the date of the installation.
2 days after, Wednesday, someone called and told me that my internet should be installed Thursday in the morning. I declined. I said that I have other commitment and if it would be okay to have it installed on Friday. The rep gladly said that it was okay.
Thursday came, I was happy with my workmates inside a van and we were on our way to Moalboal. I usually keep my cellphone in silent mode because of work and I don’t want to get caught, when an unknown number miscalled me like 5 times. I was worried. It should be from Globe. I borrowed a Globe’s handyphone just to call their Customer Service. The rep asked the account number which I was not given. I gave them my complete name and I had to spell them like a kindergarten so she can pull up my account. M as in Milk, A as in Apple, R as in Rain… Finally she was able to pull up my account.
And guess what? I was correct. They called me for the installation. I said why? I was really upset. The rep then assured me not to worry as she will schedule it on Friday, tomorrow afternoon that day.
Friday afternoon, I was waiting. Nobody called. Saturday came. I was waiting. Nobody from Globe. Sunday and Monda came, I went home in Bohol and nobody called. I nearly forgot the installation. Tuesday morning came and there I was in my room waiting for Globe. Still nobody called.
I chatted one of their analysts that day. “OUR SUPPORT GROUP was not able to find your address, Sir”. That was funny. Why they haven’t called me again? And what was the use of the sketch? Grrr….So I told the rep to cancel my application because I do not want to spend another time waiting for nothing. Gladly the rep had this retention skills and I was convinced to stay. I am patient you know. LOL After days of waiting and contacting Globe, 2 hours after I chatted the rep, someone from Globe finally called me…
Tuesday 1pm. They installed my internet. The technicians were friendly. I was happy.
Globe Broadband Internet 1mbps Comments

Globe Broadband Internet Speed Test. A random speed test.
For 995 pesos per month, I was happy with the speed I got. It was always between 0.95mbps and 1.05mbps. I can download most seeded movies (700mb) in less than 2 hours.
What I do not like is that the internet would drop out like 5 times in a month. Sometimes it would not connect for 1 hour (sometimes for 4 hours) then it would fix by itself. They have Globe Click Fix software which is of no help. There was nothing wrong on my end, most of the issues were caused by them
As of the moment that I am writing this, I already experienced twice of having no internet for two days. They said that they would credit my account but on the first outage I received the previous bill which should reflect the credit, there was no credit applied. Okay I can pass the first time but for the second time, I would make sure that the credit will be applied in the next billing statement. I do not want to spend another PhP 50.00 to load my Globe Tattoo and just get a 1 GB limited bandwidth due to their outage.
Their customer service
My board mates are interested to get connected with my 1mbps internet. I think that if I share my internet with them I can save some of my money and in this way I can help them. We decided to rent a wireless router from Globe (PhP 350.00/mo for 3 months).
I called their number 211 to apply for their wireless router. The phone rep processed an appointment for the installation of the wireless router and advised me to wait for 7 business days. And guess what? I did not get a reply from Globe. I do not want to spend more time talking with their customer service representatives and bought a wireless router myself. If they do not want my business then I do not want their business too. I’d rather buy a router than spend my precious time communicating their reps.
We got a router. We are 5 users and that makes our internet slow. Not Globe’s fault though. I convinced my board mates to upgrade the speed from 1mbps to 3mbps (PhP 1995/mo). The upgrade is automatic and it would take up to 5 days.
Our internet is now 3mbps. I ran a speed test. This time without a router to ensure and check if I am really getting a 3mbps speed. OMG! Globe never fails to surprise me. See what my actual speed is? I ran a series of 3 speed tests and these are the results:
Globe Broadband Internet 3mbps Speed Test 1
Globe Broadband Internet 3mbps Speed Test 2
Globe Broadband Internet 3mbps Speed Test 3
1.75mbps for 3mbps? You kidding me? LOL I began chatting their analysts about this twice and I got disconnected. I e-mailed them and no one seems to know and understand the problem. I am tired of complaining. If this is really what they meant for 3mbps then I will just accept it. Acceptance is the key.
Just a friendly reminder
I do not intend to hate Globe Broadband. It is not my intention to upset their fans. I just want to remind you that hey people this is how I experience from Globe. You are the consumer and you have the right to choose. As of the moment, I want to be happy paying 1,995/mo for 3mbps when my actual speed is only 1.75mbps but the idea that I am being lied, this is the fact that I am having a hard time to accept.
Anyway, at least I did not say anything bad against them. So guys, I am cool. LOL
Thank you for reading!

At least you got 1.75 mbps.. i got 1 mbps from bayantel’s 3mbps plan which costs 2.5k pesos a month.
hay naku nahahighblood ako sa globe. I have been having a dropping internet connection. send ng send ng tech ganun pa rin tapos ayaw palitan ang modem. dropping internet connection ang problem ko, it works after doing a powercycle, nag request ako ng replacement modem sinendan ako ng troubleshooting steps na hindi naman para sa issue ko… nag transfer ako ng service hindi man lang ako ininform na panibagong contract yun, hindi ko tuloy mapadisconnect ang service kasi another year nanaman ang hihintayin ko. yung info pa na binigay sakin mali-mali.
I have to warn everybody do not touch Globe they claim it is unlimited internet use, but what they do not tell you is there is a download limits or bmp per day, Also the internet bars on my brand new ipad 3 is awful ! You been warned it not unlimited internet. A big lie !
Two years ago, this article was written. Two years later, I feel like I was the one who wrote it. TWO YEARS LATER AND THE SERVICE IS STILL THE SAME…
But maybe worse?
“What I do not like is that the internet would drop out like 5 times in a month.”
You were lucky because your internet would drop 5 times in a month. MINE DROPS 5 TIMES EVERYDAY. -.-”
I have been a 3 mbps Globe Broadband subscriber for 2 years now @ Php 1995/month. But my internet connection speed never reached 3 mbps. The maximum speed that I got is 2.5 mbps only. Even if I used Globe Server for the test, my download connection speed has never attained 3mbps. According to Globe, the speed that I have is normal as it is within 80% of their offered download connection speed.
hi allen! good for you as it still reached to 2.5mbps. mine was only 1.7mbps the maximum.
all I can say is..GLOBE SUCKS! I had to use globe coming from a pldt mydsl 3mbps plan due to change in residence. Now I understand why people hate GLOBE! Once pldt becomes available in my new location, I will throw my modem to a globe center nearest my location! Frustrating!
My globe internet has been installed yesterday and this gives me a headache. Every ten minutes the internet is disconnecting.
Hi Macky thanks for the details. My wife and I got Globe there in Ward 2 Mingla right behind the market and Prince Mall… it’s always been intermittent and unreliable and slow. In sept/oct 2011 I did a lot of torrent downloads for movies and suddenly the service would stop working for days on end and then begin again. I stopped the downloads and we stayed connected more, but of course torrents were a lot of why I want internet. But at least we can browse and message, so that’s at least something. In USA of course, in the cities, you can get ten times the speed of Globe for half the price. I have a home also in Texas, far from the city, and get consistent service at 1MB, but it’s even more expensive than Globe. You just have to learn to live with what you have, I guess. I wish I was rich and powerful and I’d get good internet to Cebu, but alas, I am not.
It’s now 2 years after the above post, and many new negative experiences with Globe. We now just call the company “Bullshit Globe” because they promise the world and do nothing. After two years of very intermittent service, one time two months with NO signal at all, and BSG demanding payment anyway, we went from antenna service to hard line service. That turned out to be more reliable but even slower. Now we are moving back to the USA and went to cancel but they are demanding 2 months payment to “cancel early”. What? We have been semi-patient, paying customers for over 2 years… now we must pay 3k just to stop the bad service? Why do the laws protect the business and not the customer??? It’s a strange world.
From what I heard, all other Internet services draw from sub-ocean cables owned by PLDT. To be sure, dun nalang mag subscribe.
hi chino! thanks for dropping by!
Very unstable phone reception lagi ang Globe specially sa Fort/McKinley area. Globe to Globe calls na yun, ha. Tapos laging may palima-limampisong bawas sa load and I’m not even using it! Even their BIS sucks. Kung hindi mabagal, mawawalan din ng signal.
thanks for leaving a comment.
well, i disconnected by globe internet service already.
Grabe, madami na talaga inis sa Globe. ito ang mga patunay!

Thank you for your insight regarding Globe’s Internet broadband and service. It was really helpful in making my decision on whether to try it out, I do have a lot of bad experiences with the customer service of globe and frankly, It’s just trash. I’m going to avail of the PLDT MyDsl instead, they also have crappy customer service (as with everything in the philippines), but at least you get what you’re paying for( almost?), in terms of internet speed.
try to speedtest with a bayantel server… or a globe server…
It is burstable to 3mbps…u can never get a 3mbps speed with DSL. You’ll get a high speed once you are near a distro node. and it also depends on how many users are connected to that node.
i know your point… when i got their 1mbps package, i did get 0.9-1.1mbps… so when i upgraded to 3mbps i got 1.7mbps… i better get 2mbps then and that would be acceptable. also my location is just a kilometer away from their central office… so you don’t get my point. so the advertisement is just false when you say you can never get 3mbps… i am a techie person and i know what is needed to complain… anyway, thank you for reading…
Their ad says “get up to 3 mbps” not “3 mbps”. You say you are techie yet you call a DSL connection a “wired DSL”, is there such thing as a wireless DSL? lol, you’re pretty stupid for a self proclaimed techie person. and yes I am really trying to be an ass here.
well, thanks. i stand corrected. no wired DSL. i did not say that i should get exactly 3mbps. hope you get my point. yeah you are an asshole. lol thanks for reading my blog….
I am subscribed to Globe DSL 3mbps Php1995. I live in an apartment building at walang conduit, I think in tagalog they call it “walang abang” so if you decide to subcribe to a phone line or cable TV they will just connect the cable or wirings to that. During my globe internet installation, the guy was asking me to pay 2000 for the labor since wala daw conduit yung building. I refused, they were obviously robbing me as I am aware that it had free installation. I bluffed him off by saying that I will call Glove CS and will ask if I should really pay 2K for installation and he immediately convinced me not to as they will lose their contract. I told him, I will gladly give them 500 as consulation or bonus since it was raining hard that day, but hell no to 2K and told him I am aware of my rights. It was insalled and it was quite fast compared to smartbro. 2-3 weeks after, I lost connection, they promised they will be sending a technician to fix the issue, I begged them to send the tech the same day as I need the connection because I a homebased employee, without the net, I cant work. NO WORK, NO PAY but still the tech came after 3 days so I had to go to my mother in law’s house to use their internet. It was fixed but then I noticed during night time, the connection was sssssssssoooooo inconsistent, I think they call it intermittent (not sure about the spelling). Again, I called the tech support and told me a tech (again) will be coming over the next day. To my surprise, this time it was fast. The next day came, no one arrived and I called tech support again to follow up and much to my diappointment, the rep said that the job order number assigned to me was completed which was an absolute LIE. As I write this, Im back at my mother in law’s house using their net and now scheduled for an on-site visit for the next 3 days, galing noh? I hate Globe, I hate smartbro, I hate PLDT for not having DSL service in our area. Im tired of complaining because nothing good is happening, their service is nothing but GARBAGE!
I definitely understand how frustrating this is for you. Good thing to know you have a mother in law who is ready to spare her internet…
in my case when their internet is down, i need to load my Tattoo prepaid to get connected which is really expensive PhP 20.00/hour
Please analyze the speed test
Ping 47ms
download speed ,52mbps
Upload speed .26mbps
Thanks bro for the review.. I’m planning to get connected with globe broadband for my internet next week. I was planning to avail of the 3mbps for 1,295/mo. From what i have read on your review, i’d rather take the 995/mo rather than taking the 1,295/mo that promised to have a 3mbps which is according to you was not met. Plan 995 is more affordable and meeting the 1mbps speed, also suited for a single pc use at home. Anyway, on installation i may not have any problem on locating our area ’cause we were subscribed before to their prepaid phones. I’m too from Bohol and I’m glad to read this review. I agree, your cool and this review doesn’t sound bad.. Lamat bai! Keep sharing!
hahaha thanks for reading…
Hi i would like to comment on the speed that ure getting though, well the speed would depend on how far your house to globe telecoms central office basically thats the explanation for that. If ure too far aeay u might not get the advertised thats why there is a disclaimer saying that ‘ upto 3mbps’ they did not say that u will get 3mbps. : i know this becausr i work for a telecoms account in the us however im a filipino. I worked with globe customer service as well 2 years ago im sotry to hear that but this is the explanation to your question hope this helps
hi poy thank you for the comment! well, the globe customer service rep told me a different story. they did not say about getting a speed of up to 3mbps but they said i should be able to get at least 60% – 70% of 3mbps. so i can compute 60% of 3mbps is 1.8mbps, i got 1.72mbps. also, when i had 1mbps package, i got more than 1mbps so i dont think the distance would really affect but whatever you say, i trust you. i also for high speed internet account in the US and i know how i am lied and how i experience their unwillingness to help. i just stop complaining because i realize they cant solve my issue. anyway, i dont want to remember this since this really makes me sad… i want to be cool.
It may be true that the speed depends on the distance of your house from their cabinet. That is why they SHOULD NOT install anywhere more than the recommended distance (sorry not sure bout the figures) but more often, installers are not abiding. They are still installing kahit more than the distance allowed, which makes the connection crap… And no offense meant, most of the CS reps, its too glaringly obvious na they are not experts, they sound like they are reading from a manual and when you ask them something, di rin nila alam.
Hello,
We are planning to relocate in Bohol, I just want to know what is the most reliable connection available in Bohol because I badly need it for my job.
Thanks…
@$%^@#$
South Korea has an average speed of 14.6Mbps. its 50Mbps plan is around $40, or roughly a Php 1,800 a month! a very far cry from PLDT’s 2 Mbps connection and Globe’s “3″ Mbps @ Php 1995!
so far my experience with pldt mydsl 2Mbps has been relatively smooth sailing. we have their 2 Mbps connection. for this year, i may have experienced down time twice only, for not more than a day. i didn’t get to call their customer service which i know will lead me to nowhere. di man lang kay ang globe ra nga mabuang ka sa customer service, tanan man siguro na service providers.
akong torrent dl kay moabot og 240kB/s, 700MB seeded movie kay 55 minutes hehehe…
globe really sucks!! i avail the 3mbps business bundle with globe.. first week was great.. getting 4.5mbps to 5.2mbps for uploading based on speedtest.net but the second week,3rd and 4th was great shit! no dial tone for 2 weeks ( i don’t know bakit di magawa?) and my uploading speed now only reaches .80mbps to 1.2mbpsv(no network issue and restoration as they said) and often no internet for maybe 6 days within my first month with them. i called their hotline for almost 10 times already but just keep on telling me they will generate reports and what soever.. my business is internet cafe so how can i operate with out the internet connection? i’m so pissed of with globe!! and i’m telling the truth!! they can approach me.. i’m christian jayme of docodemo net cafe here in san vicente, urdaneta city pangasinan!!
