The Back Up Plan (2010) movie review
It was my rest day and I did not have enough things to do so I thought of downloading some movies. I did not know about this movie not until my customer chatted and asked what was the “The Back Up Plan” charge for? So I told the customer that it was an On Demand movie she purchased, then she said that it was funny she forgot. Maybe she thought it was another one time installation charge. haha Good thing, she understood.
So I Googled to find out what was the movie all about. It intrigues me because Jennifer Lopez is the main actress and it is a Romantic comedy. So here goes my reaction paper. lol
The Back Up Plan
2010
CBS Films
CAST: Jennifer Lopez a.k.a Zoe; Alex O’Loughlin a.k.a Stan
SYNOPSIS: Zoe desperately wants to have a baby and she is single. She convinces Clive, her friend, to donate a sperm for her but he declines. Although her friend Mona discourages her to have a baby saying that her children ruin her life (lol), that does not stop Zoe to think of a back up plan. She rushes to the hospital and an old helpful doctor inseminated her a sperm from an unknown donor. Her doctor says “Everything’s gonna be great. I have a feeling that you and, uhm… CRM-1 01 4 are gonna make beautiful babies together.”
Zoe walks out from the hospital so happy because the doctor just inseminated a sperm to her and she is positive she is going to have a baby. She really wants to have a baby, you know. While going home from the hospital, she waits for a taxi… that is the moment when boy meets girl. Zoe meets Stan, a seemingly annoying bachelor at first impression.
It is quite unbelievable though. Zoe thinks Stan stole her taxi and Stan also thinks Zoe stole his taxi. That was not quite a good way to start a relationship. It is raining and it is obvious Stan ruins Zoe’s happy mood right where she gets from the hospital. Ending, both of them leave the taxi and Zoe just walks out from him. Stan follows her and still does not make a good impression towards Zoe.
One time Zoe and Mona go to Tribeca Farmer’s Market where Mona can buy a muffin for Teacher Appreciation Day. Little do they know that Stan sells cheese in that place. That is the second meeting. Stan offers Zoe a free samples of his cheese but she is hesitant and declines his offer. She then says good bye and I can tell at that time Stan is starting to win Zoe’s heart.
Stan and Zoe fall in love with each other. But Zoe is pregnant. She has to tell Stan. Stan is not prepared to have a baby but she falls for Zoe so he accepts her pregnancy. This brings the whole story into a romantic comedy. To find out more of the story, you better watch it.

The scene when Zoe and Stan argue for stealing the taxi.
RATING/RECOMMENDATION: The movie is good for young adults and couples out there who would want to relate the story. I like kids so I want to relate myself in the story. The comedy fails me to burst into laughing though there is some quite good laughing point. Most of the plots are quite exaggerative yet it could be true. No one can understand the pain of pregnancy so I could not understand why the woman in the movie overdo her labor. Also, a three year old breastfeeding to her mother is quite an exaggeration yet it could also be true to some. Well, that is quite funny!
I think Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Loughlin are fit for this role. Their acting is good enough as well as the supporting actors. The scene when Jennifer use the pregnancy tester in the comfort room and then the puppy observing her is quite predictable. I knew it! The puppy grabbed the tester!
The main lesson of the movie is we should be ready when things will not go as planned. Over all, the movie is fair enough to watch. It is 4 out of 5 stars.
